How to make your picks:

 

Each week there are 16, 14, or 13 NFL games depending upon open dates.  Each member of the pool will select a winning team from each game, assigning a point value to each game.  For example, if there are 16 games, you must select 16 winners, one from each game.   Once you have selected the 16 winners, assign a point value from 1 through 16 to each game, using each point value only once.  (Ex. Buffalo: 16, Atlanta: 15, Denver: 14, . . . Washington: 3, Kansas City: 2, Chicago: 1).  Similarly, if there are only 14 games, select the 14 winners and assign a point value from 1 through 14 to each game, again, using each point value only once.  Use the same procedure if there are only 13 games.

 

You must select the winner of the game to earn the points placed upon that game.  In the event of a tie NFL game, the game is void and no points are awarded to anyone for that game.    

 

The participant who accumulates the most points in a given week wins the weekly status points.  If players are tied at the end of the week the first tie breaker will be number of games picked correctly. For example... if two players are tied at 96 but player two picked 12 games correctly and player eight picked 13 games correctly, player eight will win the week. If they both picked the same number of games correctly, the tie breaker will be carried over to the winner of the following week.  For example, if player two and player eight each score 88 points in week 6 and picked the same number of games correctly, they will go head-to-head in week 7 points to determine the week 6 winner.  If player two scores 94 points and player eight scores 82 points in week 7, then player two would win week 6 based on the tie-breaker.  If a tie occurs in week 17, the final week, total season points will determine the tie breaker if the number of games picked correctly match.  If total season points are tied, then head-to-head match-ups amongst tied opponents will be tallied.  For example, if player six and player nine each score 93 points in week 17 and picked the same number of games correctly and both players finish with 1,212 season points, then their 17 weekly head-to-head match-ups will be tallied.  If player nine beat player six 11 of the 17 weeks, then player 9 would be the week 17 winner.  This scenario is highly unlikely, but needs to be settled before it possibly happens.

 

The participant who accumulates the most season points wins the season status points.  If total season points are tied, then head-to-head match-ups amongst tied opponents will be tallied (as described above).

 

How the “Status” points are awarded and distributed:

 

Each person starts with -100 status points.  The -100 status points is determined by each player turning in 5 status points per week (17 weeks) ,10 status points for first place total season points, and 5 status points for second place total season points.

 

Each week, there will be 55 status points distributed (11 participants - 5 status points each).  The winner will receive 40 status points and second place will receive 15 status points.

 

The season points winner will receive 110 status points (11 participants - 10 status points each), and second place in season points will receive 55 status points (11 participants - 5 status points each) .   

 

Submitting your picks:

 

Picks must be submitted by times indicated on the website for that week.  This year all picks are due Wednesday of each week by 8:00 p.m.. 

 

Picks not received by the specified time will not be accepted under any circumstances this year!  A player failing to submit their picks by the specified time will receive 0 points for the week.

When submitting picks, be sure to distinguish between the two New York teams.  Please use “Jets” and “Giants” to prevent confusion. 

 

In most cases, picks will be posted on the website almost immediately after the deadline.  However, picks will always be posted prior to the beginning of the first game of the week.

 

It is the responsibility of each participant to submit his picks on time and without discrepancies.  It is the responsibility of each participant to know how many games there are each week and to assign points accordingly.  Any pick(s) which contains a discrepancy will be assigned a “0” value.  For example, if you place 6 points on both Carolina and Tennessee, both will be assigned a “0” value.  Another example, if you place 15 points on Green Bay in a week in which there are only 14 games, a “0” value will be assigned for that pick. 

 

If you find a discrepancy in your picks and correct the discrepancy with Jeff prior to the deadline, that is fine.  However you may not call to change your picks because of a change in prediction. 

 

It’s simple really; let’s keep it that way! 

 

1.     Know how many games there are each week (16, 14, or 13).

2.     Assign points accordingly (1 through 16 or 1 through 14 or 1 through 13 depending upon how many games there are).

3.     Use each point value once, only once, and no more than once.

4.     Know when the first game of the week is, and submit your picks prior to the deadline.
